—None offering. THE TAI'PO TIMBER COMPANY

IP&ESS ASSOCIATION TELEGEAJ*.} WELLINGTON. Oct. 13. Tlie chairman of directors of the Taupo Timber Company states that as a result of negotiations between the Government and the Company an Order-in-Council has been issued authorising the Company to extend its light railway (Pntaruru-Mokai) from Mowai to Taupo. about 20 miles. * Mr .Dalziell said that owing to the publicity given to the ouestion of Taupo development by the. Parliamentary inquiries, the Company now believes itself to be in a position to finance the completion of the railway to Taupo and to make the line suitable for passenger traffic and it has therefore not asked the Government to assist it by guaranteeing the moneys necessary for that purpose. “I understand,” added Mr Dalziell, ‘‘that the Government is taking steps with a view to the immediate settlement of Crown lands situated along the Company’s present railway and the proposed extension, and it is believed that there will be—as Mr Massey prophesied on his visit to the district—great development during the next five years in the settlement of this area. Tt lias been estimated that the extension of .(his railway will tap several million acres of pumice land which, with the aid of cheaply carried fertilisers, should support a large population. The guarantee that the Parliamentary Committee recommended was not to exceed £50,000. This was the estimated cost- of the extension of the line, including rolling stock.

SALE OE DAIRY HERD. The attention of dairy farmers is drawn to the sale of Mr A. Zenker's dairy herd, which will be offered by Common, Shelton and Company, at Matawhero, on Wednesday next at 11 a.m. The cows are all in'full profit, and will all be sold with a guarantee of soundness. The recent rains have assured plenty of feed, and farmers should not miss this opportunity of adding'to their herds.”
