PRESENTATION TO MR TOM POLLARD. As indicated in. Saturday’s issue, durino- tlie second interval in the production of “Les C.oches” on I'riday night, the patron of the Society (Mr William Pettie) led the veteran lom Polard on to the stage and presented, him with a well-filled purse of sovereigns on-behalf of the Society. ; I am sure you will all agree with me, said Mr Pettie, “that the opera has been a great success.”- Mr Pettie referred to the assiduity of Mr Pollard who had worked, and persevered at much more than labor union hours o bring the present opera to a successful issue. Mr Pollard, had. worked with kindness and consideration, and it was largely due to his offices that such success had fallen to the lot the Society. Mr Pollard-was accorded an ovation as he stepped before the footlights, and from behind the scenes ( a well-practised, chorus voted him A Jolly Good Fellow.” , „ Mr Pollard said the season had undoubtedly been a successful one, and he was well repaid for had done by the performance .the amateurs had given. It was an ui fortunate thing with amateui s tin just as the company was approaching its best, becoming more fiee m acting and gaining confidence it members had to. separate. \ cm , lucky in having so excellent a cas,, and lucky indeed in haying the sei vices of Mr Mainland foster as conductor. {Applause).
