THE HOTEL EMPLOYEES- I N lON
CTO TIIE EDITOR] Sir, —My colleague in the commissariat department, ‘'Second Cook, pears to be anxious to have a ”dig at our secretary, Mr Richards, but at the same time ho makes no suggestions as to how wo should put our union on a sound and workable basis. Might I come to the rescue and suggest the formation of a Union independent ,oi Auckland or any other centre, with a plank in its constitution that no strikeshall take place until sanctioned by a secret ballot. This proviso will have the effect of giving our members time for reflection before recording their votes as against the present system of open voting after inflammatory speeches delivered with the. object or inflaming the passions and catching the workers on the hop. If this system were in vogue at present in tho Dominion I guess there would lie very few strikers.—l am, etc., "THIRD COOK.”
