\ Li- NEW ZEALAND TO TAKE PART. APPEAL- BY THE PRIME MINLSTER, (Press Association Telegram.) WELLINGTON, July 30T<h!av the Prime Minister wrote to the Mayor of every city and borough in New' Zealand asking for co-opera-tion in the proposed national patriotic demonstration on tne anniversary oi the outbreak cf the war. "The Government,” says the Prime Minister’s lertcr. “has a request that New Zealand should cooperate in giving effect to the proixisal that on the fourth of Augustnext. being the anniversary of the outbreak oi 'war between England and Germany, all parts of the British Empire should join in its union, and determination. An identical resolution will be public meetings held on that dav throughout Great Britain and its dependencies, ami the Government invites your Worship'to convene a public meeting, to be held in your city on August 4, and to propose to such meeting the resolution which is in the tollowing tei ms: “That or. this anniversary of the dechu'xih of a righteous war, this meeting of the citizens of 7 I- ee- its inflexible dc-tcrminatten to - or.tir.ua to a victorious end tin* struggle in maintenance cf those ideals of liberty and justice which are the common and sacred cause of the Allies ” The Brine Minister recently communicated with the heads of all the various religious denominations in Nov, Zoaix’id. suggesting that, following the example that lias been set in Great Britain, Sunday. August S:h. should be set apart in the various churches as a> day of intercession on accou: ; of the war -and the serious crisis tiirough which the Empire is passing.’ Mr Am-sev has already received replies from most oi the deueminations expressing hearty cor.eurren-ce in the : suggestion and stating that tho ; churches will act in tne direction iuanaued.
