GISBORNE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Gisborne School Committee was held last evening. Dr Porter occupied the chair, and all members were present except Messrs Coleman and Dawson, who sent apologies. The Finance Committee, in its report. drew the attention of the Committe to the state of its funds, pointing out that their credit balance is not sufficient to pay all accounts without drawing, on moneys contributed for special purposes. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Board of Education and ask foi assistance. The Headmaster reported as follows : “The attendance duiu'ng the past five weeks has been fair. It has aver-

aged 756 or 89.9 per cent of the roll number. Miss Shepherd, who iias ; been promoted to an appointment in the Napier West School, completed her service in this school this afternoon. While I congratulate her on her promotion 1 regret that she has had to leave the school, as she proved herselr | a. capable teacher a-ud a loyal assist- ; ant.” ’Hie Secretary was instructed to write to Miss Shepherd and express the Committee’s appreciation of her past services in the school. - Mr Coleman, who has removed from the school _ district, and Dr. Porter, who is leaving New Zealand, tendered their resignations, which were accepted with regret. .Messrs H. Bookie and J. C. E. Turner were elected to Jill the vacancies, ami Mr Wildish was elected chairman. In returning thanks to the Committee for his election, Mr Wildish t«fcrred to the very valuable, work done by Dr Porter in the cause-of eduenti.n, and also for the general good of ..lie district. He moved that a vote of appreciation be accorded to .Or Porter lor Ins valuable services to the school during the time lie has bee.: n member of the Committee. This was seconded by Air Barr and carried with enthusiasm. Dr Porter thanked the Committee and made reference to the kindness end support he had received during his occupation of the chair.
