ENGLISH FINANCE AND COMMERCIAL. RANK OF ENGLAND RETURNS. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, July 31. Tim Rank of England returns for the week ended Wednesday. July 28, as compared with previous week are as follows:
Proportion of reserve to liabilities: July 28, 16.80 per cent; July 21, 18.09 nor cent. THE MONEY MARKET.
Short loans are discounted at 41 per cent, being unchanged since last week. The discount rate for throe months bills is 51 per cent as compared with 5 per cent since last week. COLONIAL STOCKS.
Other stocks are unchanged. THE METAL MARKETS. Copper—On the spot, £7l 5s to £7l 10s; three months, £72 10s to £72 15s. Tin —On the spot. £l5B 15s to £159 ss; three months, £159 to £159 10s. Rigiron—o6s Gil. Lead—£23 15s to £2l, Silver—Bar silver is quoted at 22 5-lGd per ounce standard. SUGAR. Sugar is firm. American granulated on spot 295. WOOL. Bradford tops are quiet with a good tone. Sixty-four’s, f3c! : G2’s, 4 2.t0 . DAIRY PRODUCE. Rutter —Firm. Danish is hardening on increasing German demand. There is a general shortage of line butter. New choicest Australian is available at about 112 s. Cheese is dull. New Zealand, 75s to 70s. The Government has overbought and is reselling a considerable quantity at about 60s. LOCAL PRODUCE MARKETS. Messrs Samson Pros, report a fair entry of poultry on Saturday, when the usual good demand was met with : Turkey gobblers sold at from 7s Gif t * 10s, liens 3s Gd to 5s Gd young roosters 2s 3d to 2s 9d, lions 2s hi to 2s Gd, a nice pen of young Leghorn roosters fetched 2s !)d each, ducks and drakes in great demand. Oamani potatoes 17s Gd sack, honey Is, vegetables of all kinds in plentiful supply, best butter is Gd lb; apples and oranges are very scarce but we expect shipments early. QUEENSLAND FOOD PRICES.
