WAIPIRO BAY. . (From Our Own Correspondent.') WAIPIRO BAY, Aug. 3. Now that the Maori troops have jrone into the firing line, personal interest is manifested in the Bay. One of the men hailing from here has been wounded. Some dav we may witness a home coming of a wounded man such as the bigger towns have recently seen, and one can say with confidence that Waipiro Bay will he ready to do th.e. very best for a so situated returned soldier. The expense of erecting and purchasing tho new flagstaff, has been undertaken by the public, and a dance was held in the hall last evening for the purpose of raising the necessary funds.. Tho previous day had been fine and consequently the roads were in fair order and tho night was typically i night for dancing, soil is little wonder iiiat one is able to record a largo attendance of the public. Those in whose hands the. matter was have full reason to be satisfied with tilings and the results, for a solid foundation for tho funds has been established and. by the' time the promised concert lias passed by, the amount needed (approximately ,C3~>) will ho within distance. Several private donations have been promised also. Four men from Waipiro Bay are leaving with the next draft which is in leave Gisborne on the loth August, their names being: Messrs Cl. E. Nurse A. F. Turnbull, T. Turnbull, -and G. Do ires. A public send off is being organised for them, to take place.next Monday, Bth August, and it. is intended to make the send-off a dance.
