The military authorities after the battle of the Mar no were supplied with strange stories as to the aspect, of numbers of German unwoundecl corpses. which remained upright shouldering their rifles, with pipes in their mouths. A French scientist, M. Gencranoux, b as now communicated to the Academy of Medium that this phenomena was due to the efficiency of French explosives. Within a fifteen yards radius of the explosion, the displacement of the air is. so intense that it causes a distension of the Wood vessels, the arteries bursting and these organs inducing sudden death.
