LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. Some time ago a letter was received by th© P.B.H.A. from the New Zealand Ladies’ Association, stating that tms year’s annual championship tournament would be held in Wellington from September 4 to 11, and asking the local Association to enter a team. It was also stated that the gross proceeds from the tournament are to be donated to the New Zealand Wounded Soldiers’ Fund. Accordingly a meeting of lady hockey enthusiasts was held last night, when it was decided to enter a team, lb was distinctly stated that all visiting teams are expected to pay all their own expenses and that no Association is to receive any portion of the proceeds of the tournament. Representatives of several past and present ladies’ clubs stated that various sums, amounting to about £25, were in hand and would he donated toward sending the team away. As the total cost will he in the vicinity of £65 the meeting decided to hold a hall, to take place in the Scottish Hall on Thursday, August 19, at S p.m. ” ! The folk)wing committee was appointed to undertake the management of the dance, which, it is hoped, will be' a great success:—Mesdames G. R. Buscko, E. C. Fairlio and G. 0. Moses, Misses M., M. and J. Ferguson, I. Solvander, M. Fairlie. W. East, I. Morell, E. 11aty, M. Third, K. Fromm, R. Malcolm. B. Pearut., . A. Whyte, .1. Parker and R. Caulton , Messrs 0. R. Olsen, H. MacDougall, G. R. Buseke, C. Arnold. E. H. Eton, ; A. Cassia, with G. C. Moses as lion. 1 secretary and treasurer. It is confidently anticipated that, j as the whole of proceeds will go to the Wounded Soldiers Fund, the dance will ho an unbounded success, and that the public generally, and hockey enthusiasts in particular, will give j their whole support.' All information can bo. obtained from the hon. secretary, box 200 or i ’phono 279, or from any member of > the committee. Tickets will he available on and j after Thursday next and can he obtained from any lady hockey player, member of the committee, or from the hon. secretary at the London Music Shop, Gladstone Road. The matches will ho continued as usual next Thursday, when the following appointments will hold : High School B v. Allies. No. 2 ground; referee, Mr Arnold. High School A v. Te Rata, No. 3 ground : referee, Mr Moses. . United v. Rovers, No. 1 ground; referee, Mr Grant. On Saturday Mercantile will meet West End A on No. 3 ground; Messrs Olsen and Soundy will control the game.
