Many an old-time sailing vessel, considered no longer able to successfully compete with the steamship, has found easier but much less attractive work in ‘Wellington Harbor, and the arrival iu port to-day of tho old l>ar<pfC! Antiope brought to an end another interesting career a* deep-sea voyaging is concerned. This vessel has come to Wellington t<> be transformed* in order to take her p’oee among the other historic vessels now doing good work as coal hulks in the harbor. With a cargo of coal, the Antiope, under the command of Gaplain F. Holm, left Newcastle about twelve days ago, and dropped anchor in the stream at 10.5 a.in. to-day. Captain Holm reporting “AH well’ on board. Built at Glasgow in 1860, the Antiope was afterwards engaged as an immigrant ship, and carried wool and general cargo between London and Australia. She also traded to the 'West Coast, and latterly between the Pacific S’ope and Australia, carrying lumber and coal. The Antiope was the largest sailing vessel captured by the Japanese during the Russo-Japanese war. She has run under several owners.
