NOTES. _ Geo Jones has severed his connection as private trainer to Messrs A. B. and K. S. Williams. In future the horses will be under the care of Mr J. H. Jefferd, who has managed the racing interests of the above gentlemen since they started racing horses. The horses are to be shifted to Hastings, where they will be trained in future. Geo. Jones lias had a very successful run since training for Mossrs Williams, during the past eighteen months, in which time he has won the Winter Chip, Awapuni Gold Cup, Davmcvirko Cup, Hawke's Bay Cup, Ruakawa Cup, and numerous other races with Chortle, Multiply, Multiplicity and Multiplication. The Messrs 'Williams’ new' stables will be situated at Ngatarawa, near Hastings, where they have secured a line property of some 300 acres, which possesses a private training track. As Messrs Williams have a string of about a dozen horses in their stables, all of which are right clown well-bred ones, their decision to remove to Hastings will be a decided loss to this district.

Through Banksia’s win in the 'Winter Chip the Patriotic Fund will benefit to the tune of £SOO. Before the Auckland June Meeting Mr Greenwood promised the first race won by his horses to this fund, and as this is the first race he has won the fund will receive the handsome donation.

Multiply’s withdrawal from the rest of his engagements, after liis disappointing running in the Trial Hurdles, is, no doubt, on account of the gelding going sore. A southern report says the Mujtifid gelding showed signs of soreness in his work last Saturday and lu’s jumping was poor. Multiply has bad a lot of racing during the past season and a short respite should fix him up.

Bracoburn was showing signs of lameness in his work at Ricca it outlast Saturday. Although nothing lias yet been decided on in connection with the sending oi' the two-year-old Cultriforni to Sydney, says the “Star,” there is a strong probability of the daughter of Boniform being taken across. Gultriform is engaged in the principal events at. the A.J.C. Spring Meeting, and it will all depend on how she shapes between now and the time fixed for F. J. McManemin’s departure whether she will be taken across or not.

The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club have decided that any member _ absent at any time from the Dominion in any capacity in connection with the war be exempt from payment of the annual subscription. A returned visitor from Australia states that Reputation has wintered exceptionally well, and looks in perfect condition to face his winding-up task for the forthcoming Australian •sprjng campaign. C. Browne has been engaged to ride Colonel Soult in bis engagements at the A.J.C. Spring Meeting, says a Northern Report. The Grand National Steeplechase on Tuesday was a chapter of accidents from start to finish, and it. is safe to say that but for the falling of several horses the first three horses to finish would not have been in the hunt. But that is all in tho game, and the plodders prevailed on this occasion. The time (7.13) was good and has been beaten three times, the record being 7.10 2-5, by Eclair in 1907. Had Morning stood up it looks as though the record would have been beaten for be was well in front of Ngatoa when he fell. Evidently tho fast pace set by Morning had something to do with bringing all the top .weights down. Only five out of the thirteen horses finished the course and they were, well spread out The Winter Cup saw another hot pot in' Glenroy beaten, and this horse was coupled with almost everything in tho doubles (Cup and Steeples). He bad a few mornings previous put up the best Winter Cup training gallop (1.41) ever done at Riccarton. He faded out in tho last pinch and finished fourth. Tho time 1.414-5 was a record for the race. Chortle holding tho rc'ord before (1.42). , Bi«- dividends were the order or the dav at the National Meeting on 'luesday and backers must have received u sovero shock. After his easy win m the Juinpeis Flat Race, If miles, Harbour Light (TOO) looks like being well supported for the Grand National Hurdles today. The Sylvia Park—Ran Rau o-eiding won three races at the Auckland Winter Meeting: Orakei Hurdles H miles 9.7; Jumpers’ F.at, If miles, 9.2; Campbell Hurdles. 2 miles, 9.9, with Corrie -10.6 second. He will bo ridden by Sid Reich R MeScvenv has secured the mount on Master Lupin in the Grand National Hurdle Race. . Wainunoa will be ridden in the Grand National Hurdles by W. Young.
