Dancers are reminded of the kncwcy dance to be liold in the Scottish Rail on Thursday, August 19. A meeting of cyclists was held a’> the Borough Council Chambers_ last evening; Mr. G. C. Munns presided. After a long discussion on the state of the roads and the disabilities under which cyclists suffer, it was decided to form a cyclists association to conserve the interests ol cyclists, and a strong provisional conimittee was appointed to put matters in train. A fuller report of the meeting is unavoidably hold over until Monday.
A meeting of the High School Board of Governors was held yesterday, there being present Messrs Ik 11. Mann (in the chair). John Bright. Matthews and the secretary (lion. W . Morgan). m regard to the matter of the Education Board taking over the Technical School buildings, it was decided to meet a deputation from'the Board on a date to be arranged, Friday evening next- at 7.80 o’clock being suggested as a suitable time. The balance sheet, as audited by the Department was adopted. A committee comprising Messrs Mann, Bright and Matthews was' set tip to go into the matter of blinds, etc., for the new hostel.
A deputation of Maori landowners waited upon the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald. 1 yesterday afternoon. The landowners, A rami Kim ait h lkira tone Waata. and"others, were introduced by Mr. C. Ferris, who acted as interpreter. The Natives had a request to make regarding the To Roinga block (of 3333 acres) and the Wnipaoa block (of 2100 acres). They asked that the Minister should use h'N influence to see that the lands in question were no t acquired bv the Government, as they wished to' retain, the land for farming on their own account. Mr. MacDonald stated that, although ho was not Minister for Native Lands, he could assure them that Native land which was being used for farming would not be interfered with. He promised them that the Ministry of which ho was a member would see that the Native race generally would not be deprived of lands intended for cultivation in the interests of the. Natives.

The appointment of a new clerk, in succession to Mr Goo.
