MATCH IN AID OF WOUNDED SOLDIERS.

On Saturday last quite an innovation in football was introduced into Tokomani, when a game under Association rules was played on the local ground between teams representing Waima and Tokomaru. Being new in the bay, a much keener interest was taken in it and the afternoon proved a huge success. The two teams were captained by H. Keirby, in charge of Tokomaru, and It. Chalmers for Waima* The utmost good feeling prevailed right throughout the game and the. various rushes, passes, and other incidents connected with the very necessary business of scoring were taken and given in such a. feeling of good fellowship Licit after the strenuous Rugby games we have find hero this season it wap a treat to see a game played on these lines. The object- of the game was to raise funds for the wounded and distressed and, as is usual in Tokomaru for objects of this nature, the attendance was good. As we have had nothing hut Rugby in the hay this season, a few comments on'the Association game may not he out of place. During the first half, Joe Gates, minding the ,Tokomaru goal, never allowed the ball to get within “eooeo” of his sticks. Others who put up good work for Tokomaru were “Irish” Keirby, Ettles, Adams and Clarke. For Waima, Chalmers and Geo. Chalmers showed out most lyEarly in (he game Tokomaru were awarded a penalty, which was missed hv inches only 'by .Keirby. Shortly after, lie succeeded in netting the first goal. Adams secured the second, Clark the net, Keirby the fourth, and Joe Oates the fifth, and the Tokomaru skipper the six Hi. Waima had the benefit of an old experienced player in King, u lie played centre half for his side. He succeeded in breaking up flic Tokomaru combination, whoso score otherwise would have been much than was eventually shown. The \Yaimaitos did considerably belter in the second half. The scores at half-time were Tokomaru 4, Waima nil, and the finpl was Tokomaru (i, Waima nil. A return match is being eagerly looked forward to.
