Sims and Miss Knight beat H. Brinsden and Mrs Scott Watson 6 —4, 6—3. In the men’s singles final, both players stayed at the back ob the court for the first two sets, during which Bartleet was always a, shade superior. Both drove with vigor and placed prettily but Bartleet was the more accurate of the pair. Sims advanced to the net in the third set, and gained a slight lead in the early stages, but could not capture Bartleet’s service. Bartleet also came into the net in the third set, and a hard-fought match ended in his favor.
Misses Speirs and Knight fought out a thrilling final in the ladies’ singles, although eirois were very frequent. After being three games behind in the first set Miss Knight made a fine recovery and pushed the Canterbury player to advantage before the- latter won. Miss Knight driving splendidly and smashing vigorously, captured the second set with the loss of only one game. Miss Speirs gained a. lead of five to one in the third set, when Miss Knight made another effort, taking the next two games, but Miss Speirs won toe next and the jpatch Bartleet and Robson had a comfortable win against Brinsden and Griffiths in the men’s doubles. The tennis was disappointing, the losers being more erratic than usual. Bartleet and Robson liad a particularly fine service.—P.A.
