Sympathetic reference to the death of Mr. D. S. Jamison was made by several speakers at last night’s meet- 1 ” ing of the Waikanae Beach Improvement Society. It was stated that Mr. Jamison had been connected with the Society almost since its inception, and had been one of its most active workers. On the motion of the chairman (Mr. "J. A. Nicol), a vote of condolence with the relatives was passed.
Lady Rhondda is already a director of 28 important companies, not the least of which are those she inherited in 191 S from her father, whose right hand she was during the last years of Ids life as a great coal magnate and Government controller. Discussing the difference between men and women in business, Lady Rhondda declared to an interviewer that “it is impossible to generalise in this manner, and I do net see that women are any better than men. it is purely a matter of the individual.”
At a dinner in connection with the installation ceremony of Wairoa lodge the Chairman announced that P. G. Bro. Browne's gold medal and set or Oddfellows’ links had been von respectively by P.G. Bro. Redmond and Sec Bro. Booth for proposing the most members. D.D.G.M. Bro. Goss afterwards presented Bro. Browne with a beautiful lodge certificate in recognition of his long membership and good services. The recipient’s health was enthusiastically drunk and Bro. Browne feelingly returned thanks.
