TWO-STOREY HOUSE ABLAZE

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 13. Asleep while their home was ablaze, and awakened just in the nick ot time to escape in night attire along the top of the verandah, Mr and Mrs McKay, of Colombo Street, had a narrow escape from death early th’is morning. Their bedroom was on the upper floor, and when they awakened the house was fully ablaze below and the flames roaring upstairs cut oit their escape that way. . McKay got through the window and carried his collapsed wife along the top of the verandah to safety. The house and contents were destroyed .—P. A. '
