PROGRESSIVE MOVE IN GISBORNE.

FORMATION OF BRANCH OF N.Z. INSTITUTE.

A branch of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand was formed in Gisborne this week. Tho rules of the Gisborne branch will be practically the same as those of the New Zealand Institute, with the innovation that all employees will require to be registered, so that there will be no clashing of interests.

An alteration lias also been made in the Chamber of Commerce’s scale of fees in regard to houses selling at up to £2OOO. The new charge will bo s*• per cent, up to the first £3OO and 2) per cent, on the balance. Some of the objects of the Institute are: (a) The adoption of a Uniform scale of' charges by members,; (b) the settlement of disputes between members themselves, by reference of disputed cases of commission to the executive, a.s arbitrators, and tlie control of litigation between members and their clients by reference of disputed cases of commission to the executive, for the purpose of preliminary enquiry, and in cases of mutual agreement by arbitrating between members and their clients ; (c) to raise tlie status of the business of land and estate agents and land auctioneers, and to promote by intercourse, a good feeling among members themselves; (d) to take any action deemed by the Institute to bo for the common good of members, and in particular, but without limiting tho scope of such object, to guard the interests of tlie members bv (1) vigilance as to any proposed legislation, or by securing or- attempting to secure alteration in any existing or future law or laws which, in the opinion of the Institute is, or tends to be detrimental to members. (2) the control and regulation of the practice of the business of land and estate agents and land auctioneers; (e) the protection of the general public in their dealings with agents and auctioneers. Officers have been elected as follows: President, Mr G. Clrawshaw; vice-presidents, Messrs C. G. Bloore and T. G. Lawless; committee, Messrs G. S. Bruce and C. Blackburn; secretary, Mr G. K. Pasley. The following have either already joined, or signified their intention of becoming members: Messrs M. E. Hill, James Innes, A. G. Beere, F. M. Orr, A. M. Beer, F. R. Ball. H. B. Gardner, N. H. Pike, and Common Shelton and Go. -
