AUCKLAND, Jan. 15. Dull, but fine weather prevails for the opening of post section play in the Dominion bowling rink championship, for which 59 teams at the heads of sections are fighting out the issue on the two lives system. Only the greens of four clubs are being utilised, instead of 7 for section play. Results: Remucra Green.—First round : Mingins (Epsom) 16 v. Naylor (Thorndon) 15, Kerr (Masterton) 24 v. Trayes (Mt. At the end of the • day fiftynine teams fiad been reduced to 60, eight being “two-in ers” and 22 “oneliter ’ as tollow :

ington tlien piled on the points in great style and ran out the winner by 31 to 13. All prospect of an Australian team gaining premier honors were dispelled in the next round, when Swain wont down to Bbe (Maitai) in a sensational game. Swain was six up, with two heads to the good. Dee secured a two and a seven in the last tivo heads
and won by 23 to 20. The second round also spelt defeat for Pilkington. Elevy (Devonport) played a determined and accurate game and the score was 16 all at the hist head. Bruce and Elevy both drew shots 'and the Devonport rink won by two points. Pilkington beat !ledpat-h (Canter bury). In the third round Harraway (Green Island) last year’s winner, triumphed over Osmond (Auckland! after a close game. The score was 2i ing vein in the second round, beating Reclpath by 19 points. In the third round Elevy (Devonport) beat Harraway in a great game. Doherty (Kelburn) went out as the result of defeats by Truscott (Carlton) and James (Cambridge). Naylor (Tliorndon)) whose record of 9 wins was unequalled in inter-sec-tion play, showed a surprising reversal of form, being beaten by Alingins (Epsom) and ’lrayes (Mount Eden). There was a margin of one point in the first case and nine in the second. Kerr (Alasterton), who is a wellperformed rinks player, won his first two games and entered the third round to be beaten by Jenkin. The New Plymouth team, skipped by London, had a close tussle with Wooller (Remucra) and was beaten by 20 to 18. At its second venture it- had a big win over -Scantlebury (Auckland) and was then badly beaten by Hosking’s team. Howarth (Canterbury) did not reach the third round, through being defeated by Mcßobie (Remuera), and Skoglund (Stratford). B“vnoiTs Petone rink made a remarkable recovery against Parsons (Ponsonby). In the first round the score at one stage was 22 to 10 against him, but he kept at Ins task and won by two points—2-* to 22. In his next game he was extended all the wav by the crack Hamilton slap, Nome ‘Bell, but won by three points Stewart (Dunedin) beat him m the third round. Stewart had a close call in the first round against Uaikc (Rocky Nook) but was not seriously troubled by Blanchard (Remuera).— P.A.
