WANGANUI, Jan. 17. A partial strike of the waterside workers employed in loading the John occurred this morning, and is still in progress. One of the watersiders during a lull in the operations left and went to the union offices to vote. When he returned after about five niinutes’ time he was dismissed by, the., wharfinger. , ‘ The whole 38 of. the men walked off the ship. • - Tlie trouble was later referred, to the disputes committee, and in the meantime the men resumed at 1.20 o’clock this afternoon. Mr W. J. Rogers, secretary of the union, stated that the. action of the men was due to what they considered arbitrary treatment to watersiders on the part .of the wharfinger.—R.A.
