MARRIAGE OF MINORS
NEW REGULATIONS IN FORGE
(Special to the limes.') AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. The new regulations dealing with consent to marriage ol minors that came into operation on Januarj 1 inspire the question: ‘‘Are such marriages common in New Zealand. Statistics indicate that the popular age for marriage in the Dtraiimon is for bridegrooms 25 and for brides 21. The age for brines nas continued, without alteration for many years, but in the case of bridegrooms, lias fluctuated a good deal, increasing in 1918 from 26, a rate that had held good for some time, to 28. The. aveiatre age is 30 for bridegrooms and 2b for brides. The proportion of marriages contracted under 21 is .small, 3 51 percent for males and 1 i .ot per cent for females. In Auckland last vear, 149 of a total of 2192 marriages necessitated the consent of parents, owin'* to either or both paities bung minors. Most of the minors who wed in Auckland have reached the age ot 9() years. In Auckland, "Wednesday is considered the lucky day tor marriages. Very few weddings aie performed on Friday.
