AUCKLAND'S RATES COME ROLLING IN. AVERAGE OF £IO,OOO A DAY. “(Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. Little difficulty has been experienced by the City treasurer this year in collecting rates. On Saturday, which was announced as the last day of grace before the imposition of the 10 per cent, penalty on all outstanding rates, the staff was exceptionally busy, about £IOOO being received through the post alone. Uvc-r a period of ten days ended Saturday more than £IOO,OOO was received, or an average of £IO,OOO a day. 11ns year the amount collectable is over £400.000, as compared ' with about £3Bu.000 last year, yet the amount outstanding on Saturday was £19,000 less than it was at the corresponding time in 1926. The amount collected in the past five days was greater than the total rates collected for tlie whole of the financial year 1902-d.
