KEEPING! GAMING! HOUSE TIMARU, Jan. 19. At the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr C.,11, Orr-Walker, S.M., A. Huston and W. Kartell were charged with keeping a common gaming house and with bookmaking, and _O. Sloacombse was charged with assisting Karton in the running of tHe house. The second charge against tiie first two named men was withdrawn by the police. All the abused pleaded guilty, and were each fined ±.IUO, Sloacom.be being allowed one week m which to pay the, fine.—P.A. ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES SUM OF £2OOO SAID TO BE INVOLVED DUNEDIN, Jan 19. OUarges involving, according to the police, about £2OOO will he preferred against George Thompson Swan, who has been brought from South Australia to answer them. In the Police Cburt this morning he was charged with obtaining £IBO from Margaret Gibson with intent to defraud by falsely representing lie was supplying the Exhibition Co. with machinery, and the complainant would share in the profits. Chief Detective Cameron said there would be six charges, involving £2OOO. Accused was remanded until January £2B, bail of £SOO being allowed.— P.A.
