ALDINGTON YARDS. 'FAT SHEEP DROP 1/6. DECREASE IN FAT CATTLE PRICES. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. PJ. To-day’s sale was a slow one for all classes of meat, beef and mutton being lower in price. Store lambs sold briskly, and other classes of store slieep maintained their values. Fat Lambs.—34oo yarded, a fair proportion being from the West vAiast. A firm sale took place at Bjd to 9d for 361bs and under and 8d for 37 to 421 b. The bulk of lambs averaged from 25s to 27s 6d. Store Sheep.—TliSre was a good entry for this time of year, including ewes from the Chathams, Marlborough and Nelson. Ewes with good mouths sold well, as did rape iambs. Aged ewes and lambs made 12s 4d to 14s Id, good ewes and lambs IGs to 18s Bd, 4-th three-quar-tcrbretl ewes 255, 4,6 and 8-th threequarter bred inferior • ewes 21s to 245, 4,, 6 and 8-th good ewes 25s to 28s 6d, failing-mouth crossbred ewes 17s lOd, aged ewes 11s 9d, cull 2-tb crossbred "ewes 20s d, 2-th Corriedalc ewes 33s 3d, 2-th ha If bred ewes 27s Gd to 30s 3d, 4 and G-th three-quar-terbred ewes 30s Id, 4 and G-th wethers 21s to 23s lid, cull 2-th threequarter bred wethers 14s 9d to 16s scl, 4-th half-bred wethers 20s 6d to 21s, good cull 2-th three-quarterbred wethers 14s 9d to lGs sd, 4-tli halfbred wethers 20s Gd to 21s, good rape lambs 20s Gd to 22s 7d, medium lambs 18s 2d to 19s 3d, half-bred lambs 21s 3d, ewe lambs 23s lOd, call lambs 14s Id.
Fat Sheep.—There was an average entry, but a sticky sale, values being down by Is Gd all round, in adding to which there were passings. Extra orime wethers made to 31s lOd, prime wethers 26s 9d to 30s, medium wethers 24s Gd to 26s Gd, light wethers 22s d to 24s 3d, extra prime ewes to 265, prime ewes 21s to 23s' 6d, medium ewes 17s 6d to 20s 6d. light ewes 15s to 17s, old ewes 12s Gd to 14s Gd. ' Fat Cattle.—There was a heavy entry of 535 head and a very sluggish sale, values being down by an average lor ordinary beef of up to 25s a head, and good stuff by 15s to 20s. Best steer beef made from 34s to 36s 1001bs., medium class and heavy beef 31s to 33s d, best heifer 33s Gd to 36s Gd, ordinary cow and heifer heel 27s Gd to 31s, and rough beet down to-. 255. Values were: Prime heavy steers to £T6 7s Gd, prime medium weight steers £l3 10s to £lo ss, medium quality steers £H to £T3, light steers £8 to £lO 15s, extra prime heifers to £l2 17s Gd, prime heifers £8 to £lO 10s, medium heifers £6 10s to £7 15s, light heifers £5 to £6 os, extra prime cows to £ll l<s Gd, prime cows £7 os to £9 15s, medium cows £5 5s to £7, old cows £1 to £5. .... Vealers. —There was a fairly large entry of vealers. GoAd sorts sold well at late rates. Runner calves made £5 lo £o. medium calves J * 10s to £4 10s. small and inferior
calves 10s to 30s. Store Cattle. —The entry of stove cattle consisted mainly of cows, torward steers, and good fresh 'oung cows sold well, but inferior soils v. 0.0 not so easy to quit as of late. Good three and four-year old steers made £9 ss, good cows to £4 15s. medium cows £3 to £4, inferior cow s -30 s to £2 10s. , . Dairy Cattle.—The sale was a good one throughout and prices advanced slightlv on late rates. Best second, third and fourth culvers made £8 to £l2, medium sorts £6 to £7 10s, inferior .sorts £3 10s to £5 10s, extra good spring heifers to £l3 lus, good sorts £7 to £lO 10s, others £4 10s to £6 10s. . Fat pgs.—The entry of tat pigs ■was large. Tnere was a fair demand, with prices on a par with last week. Extra" heavy baconers were practically unsaleable. Choppers made £3 to £5, light baconers £3 7s Gd to £3 17s Gdi heavy baconers £4 to £4 Bs, extra heavy baconers to £5 os, average price per lb Gd to G;}d, light porkers 46s to 525, heavy porkers 50s iv- 63s Gd, average price per lb
7Ad to Bd. "Store Pigs.—There was a large entry of store pigs. _ The demand was
fair and if anything, prices were a shade better than last week’s. Smalt weaners made 15s to 21s Gd, better sorts 22s to 28s, small stores 27s to 335, medium stores 34s to 40s, large storc-s to 50s.—P.A.
