STRONGEST IN EUROPE. AEROPLANES FUR POISON GAS. (Received Jan. 20, 11.50 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 20. The Chicago Tribune's Berlin editor reports that the secret services reveal that the Soviet Army is the strongest in Europe, with ft personnel of 1,270,000 permanent infantry. 370,000 trained reservists, 560.000 cavalry and 80,000 air force, with 2000 aeroplanes. Of the aeroplanes 860 are obsolete, but are being rebuilt and fitted with apparatus for spraying deadly poison gas, ostensibly to protect the Russian forests from parasites .- —A. N. Z .C. A.
