Briand, in the Chamber, delivered an anxiously-awaited statement on foreign affairs. Ho outlined at length the policy followed at Locarno, Geneva and Thoiry. -tie also protested against the campaign of the Rightists, representing him as being in conflict with his colleagues in the Cabinet on the subject of the Rhineland evacuation, ft was Germany's right, as the result of the treaty, to raise the question of evacuation as soon as she iiad fulfilled her obligations as regards reparations and -security, and if Germany made such an overture, the Council of Ministers would be informed.
M. Briand added that he hoped an agreement would he reached before February 1 regarding Germany s eastern fortifications.
Negotiations, said M. Briand, would shortly be opened with Spain on the subject of Tangier. Touching on China, M. Briand said the Government would pursue its policy of' vigilance and prudence.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
