PRECAUTIONS IN NEW ZEALAND RIGOROUS INSPECTION OF OA r ERSEA SHIPS _ WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. A lengthy statement issued by Mr Young, Health Minister t<>day, regarding; influenza states thiat port health officers have been instructed' to adopt the vigorous inspection of I ships from overseas, particularly Europe, to withhold pratique in ships arriving with influenza aboard, ,or with a history of the epidemic or influenza at the earlier stage of the voyage. The medical officers of health have been instructed to satisfy themselves that quarantine slafcions will ibe able to be opened up at a moment’s notice, with accommodation as required and are also to satisfy themselves that local organisations are in readiness to cope with .any outbreaks which, may ->c.car within Now Zealand. The Department and tlie public are better organised today than at any time before to deal with the epidemic. Official advice received regarding the nature of the course of- the epidemic in is by no means so alarming as the cabled news in the papers, state. P.A.
