IX>ss IXION CHAMPIONSSIP. EX;H AM V. lONS BADLY DEFEATED. PALMERSTON N., Jan. 21. The Dominion croquet championships commenced to-day in glorious weather. The competitors were welcomed by the Dominion president, Mr G. Cangliley, alio remarked that the entries were a record and the standard of competitors equal to that of previous years. Tlie surprise of the day was the defeat ci Mrs. Johnson (Christchurch) and G. Cangliley (Wellington) by Mrs Gambfiell (Mnnawntu) and Colonel Hume (Nelson), 26-0. The latter pair arc comparatively new players so far as tournaments are concerned, while 'Cangliley has held the open ‘Singles championship and his partner was three times ladies’ champion.—> P.A.
