BLUFF THAT FAILED
FREEZERS THREATEN TO STOP WORK IF VOLUNTEERS NOT DISMISSED COMPANY REFUSE —AND FREEZERS CARRY ON FEILDING, Jau. 2-5. . Union butchers at the Feilding freezing works tried a bluff which did not succeed. This morning twenty-eight held a meeting and later .informed the chairman of directors, Mr J. J. Cobb that unless twelve volunteer butchers still employed were dismissed at once they would cease work. Mr Cobbe at- once informed the butchers that the volunteers who had come to help the company and the farmers would not be dismissed. The company immediately called for more volunteers and posted a notice telling the strikers to collect their wages. This afternoon, however, a deputation from the butchers again waited on Mr Cobbe and stated that the men would carry on as usual. —P.A.
