TRAIN SERVICES INTERRUPTED

(United Press Assn.—Copyright.) JiAtiaiyA-NEj -lull. Terrific tropical rains are still lading along the Queensland coast, it is reported that the greater part oi the coastal belt will ue tloodeu.

At Byron Bay over 23jin. of rain have fallen this month. Creeks and rivers are running bankers, and much low-lying land- is under water. Railway services are interrupted. There have been several washouts on the Brisbane-Towns’ville .line, and at least live bridges have been washed away.

Further heavy rain caused the cancellation of all northern trains. The Burdekin and Herbert rivers are flooded, while reports from practically all the southern centres state that flood conditions prevail. The rain is still falling, with every indication of continuing.

Three drownings are so far -reported.

The town of Nambour is isolated, being surrounded by the flood waters. Details are meagre, as all communications with the flooded districts are disorganiseu.— U .P.A.

SHIPPING ADVISED TO LEAVE BRISBANE ONLY TWO BUILDINGS LEFT IN ONE TOWN. IPSWICH WATER MAINS BROKEN. (Received Jan. 25, 10.45 p.m.j BRISBANE, -Jan. 25. Owing to the possibility of a flood in Brisbane the river and port authorities have . issued a warning advising all shipping as a precautionary measure to move out into Morton Bay. Several steamers have vacated their berths at the wharves. With the partial restoration of communications, graphic stories of floods are reported in the Queensland coastal area. ' At Fossilerock, on the Lynd River, only two buildings, the school and the police station, are left standing. One dozen families were left without shelter, and only the clothes they stood in. One man has lost 40‘J goats. Since January 15, 15 inches of rain have fallen. Rain is still falling at Brisbane. The water mains supplying Ipswich have broken, and the town is drawing supplies from another reservoir, which, however, holds only two days’ supply.—U .H.A.
