BOROUGH COUNCIL.

LYTTELTON. Monday, July 20. The Council met at the usual hour. Present—Crs Hawkins, Buist, Graham, Kenner, Allwright. His Worship the Mayor presiding. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The clerk reported he had received during the past week £22. Accounts amounting to £ll 8s were passed for payment. A printed memorial to the General Assembly from the Christchurch City Council, praying that certain taxes might revert to the city, was read. The borough council were asked to cooperate in this matter, Cr Allwright spoke strongly on the action taken by the City Council, considering that after what the Council had done the Council were too precipitous in their action.

After some discursive conversation between Crs Hawkins, Graham and Kenner.

Cr Allwright moved, “ That the Council do not see its way to co-operate with the Ciiy Council at present.” Cr Graham seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.

A conversational discussion ensued respecting the planting of trees. His Worship the Mayor having given notice of motion for the next meeting, the Council adjourned.
