REPORTED EARTHQUAKE.

To the Editor of the Globe, Sir,—As the papers of this morning arc silent respecting the earthquake which happened last night, I conclude that the phenomenon was not generally observed or felt. I felt it distinctly at about 10.25 p.m. It seemed like a double shock, although not very strong. It passed as if from south-east to north-west. I did not remark any rumbling noise. Yours, &c, THOMAS ELMSLY, Montreal street south, Sept 1, 1874.
