MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, Septembek 16. [Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.] DBUNK AND DISOBDEBLY. John Sullivan, arrested by Constable Hughes, was charged with being drunk, using obscene language in a public place, and resisting the police in the execution of their duty. - 1f The evidence of Constable Hughes proved the offences, and the accused was fined 20s. or 48 hours. Mathew Percy, for drunkenness, was fined 10s. LYTTELTON. Tuesday, Septembeb 15. [Before W. Donald, Esq, R.M.] BEFUSAL OF DUTY. Her rick Watson, a seaman on board the Carisbrooke Castle, was charged with the above offence, and sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labor. EMBEZZLEMENT OF SHIP'S CAEGO. Edmund Ford, of the Carisbrooke Castle, was charged with this offence, but the evidence not being conclusive, the case was dismissed. ASSAULT. James Kelly, a laborer, was charged with assaulting Captain John Galbraith, piermaster. The evidence was conclusive, and accused was fined 40s, and costs. USING ABUSIVE AND IMPEOPEE LANGUAGE ON THE WHAEF. James Kelly, the defendant in the previous case, was charged by Captain Hugh McLellan with this offence. After hearing the evidence, he was duly convicted and fined 60s and costs. BEEACH OF MUNICIPAL OEDINANCE. A man named Grug was accused of having thrown a quantity of rubbish on the footpath. The case being proved, defendant was fined 20s and costs.
