ROAD BOARDS.
COURTENAY.
The Board met at the office, White’s Accommodation House, on Tuesday, September 22nd. Present—Hon. Colonel Brett, Messrs Coutts, Gough, and White. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, Letters were read—
From the Secretary for Public Works, informing the Board that the letters sent to him had been forwarded to the General Governmenthrespecting the crossings over the line.
Also in answer to a request for money to fence in the emigrants’ cottages, that the Government considered it should be done by the emigrants. The surveyor was directed to have each cottage, when erected, securely fenced, and small gate put to each. Also a letter containing rules for the letting and keeping in repair said cottages. As the cottages were still in course of erection, the consideration of this letter was deferred until next meeting.
Also a letter asking that a copy of the rate roll containing a portion of the Weedon educational district might be forwarded to Mr Prior, Weeden. The surveyor was directed to prepare the same.
Also a letter from the Mandeville Board, thanking the Board for forwarding plans of the scoops used by road contractors in the Courtenay district. Also a letter from the Provincial Treasurer enclosing a cheque for the General Government grant, £402, to be spent on main roads. Tenders were then opened for roads advertised for at the previous meeting, and one in each case accepted, with the exception of Highfield road, being, in the opinion of the Board, too high. The surveyor was then directed to call for tenders for metalling 80 chains West Coast road, Turner’s present contract ; 80 chains same road, Lord’s contract; 25 chains Halkett road, from St Matthew’s church to White’s; formation 40 chains of Halket road, from end of metalling easterly, to John Hill’s, West Melton ; 110 chains Highfield road, Courtenay. A tender for the paddock at Greendale was also accepted, and the surveyor was directed to call for tenders for the erection of the pound, the Board finding material. The pay sheet, amounting to £345 2s 4d, was adopted and passed, and the Board adjourned.
