Melbourne, November 12. The excitement of the race weak is now over, and an exodus of strangers has takeu place to the other colonies and to the country districts. The race meeting was financially, and in respect to attendance, the most successful held at Flemington. £6OOO alone was realised on the Gup day. Haricot’s victory was a good oue for the ring and saved many. Melbourne won the Flemington Plate, three miles, beating both Goldsborough and Diver. Gaslight won the Oaks, Parliamentary proceedings have been without interest. The Local Government Bill is the principal subject of discussion. Governor Bowen has received six months’ leave of absence, and proceeds home as soon as Parliament rises. The Speaker gave a Parliamentary banquet last night, as a farewell to the Governor and Mr Francis. Dr Tracy, after a long and lingering illness, has died. Very little business has been done during the week. Wheat is quoted at 5s lOd to 5s lid, but none is offering. Oats are wanted at 5s Gd for feeding. Dried fruits continue in demand. Brandies are again coming into notice. Large sales of botthd ales have been made at improved rates.

Auckland, November 18. Twenty-four volunteers have qualified in the companies’ firing in the Auckland district for the right to take part in the firing for four representatives at the colonial prize firing. The chief scorers were—Messrs Play, llaslett,, McDonald, each 90; Kelly, 87 ; Skinner, 82 ; White, 82 ; Leigh, 80; Haremape and Partington, 79. At the Waiuku firing, Captain Hamlin, 91 ; Centril, 80. Alexandra, November 18. The natives arc obliged to keep up a regular sentry to protect the crop from pheasants. A large number of cattle are arriving from the King country for sale. Wainuiomata, November 18. The volunteers have fired for the district representatives which resulted as follows—J. Mcllrade, 82 ; Prouse, 82. Wellington, November 18. The Scottish Volunteers have fired for representatives, resulting as follows—Turner, S 3. New Plymouth, November 18, The firing for representatives resulted as follows—Oakey, 92 ; Curtis, 91 ; Barriball, 85 ; Lawrence, 83 ; Elliott, 82 ; R. Bayley, 82 ; Humphries, who was second aggregate at last year’s colonial firing, did not fire. Dunedin, November 18. The box plans of Madame Goddard’s first concert were opened to-day. Double the number of seats in the dress circle were applied for. Within half-an-hourevery seat in the circle was engaged. The scats in the stalls, which have been reserved, are fast filling up. The second concert promises to bs equally successful.

Auckland, Nov 10. The Hydaspes immigrants are indignant at the release of the saloon passengers. Last night they broke out into open resistance of the authorities at the Quarantine Station, and refused to allow the removal of the passengers luggage. As the luggage is wanted for the passengers proceeding north, the difficulty is rather serious. The following is an extract from a telegram sent by Dr Feathorston to the Minister for Immigration, giving a list of the immigrant ships that sailed in October:—Dilharee, with 370, Warwick 240, Inverene 200, for Auckland ; Berar 360, Humboldt 390, for Wellington ; Galbraith 140, Nelson 320, Wild Deer 300, for Otago ; Acheron 200, for Taranaki ; Aglesey 270, for Nelson ; Avalanche 3:20, Lady Jocelyn 530, Waimate 370, for Canterbury. Total, 4010 souls. Wanganui, November 18. The Wanganui rifles have fired for choice of representatives. Churton, 96 ; Collard, 92 ; Sommervillc, 91. Five more scored over SO, the average being 79. Nuw Plymouth, Nov 19. Henry Wright, late sergeant A.C., was brought up yesterday on a charge of embezzlement. Colonel Lyon, Major Tuke, the Postmaster, and others, were examined as witnesses. He is charged with appropriating £S 19s, being the proceeds of a money order given him to collect. He was committed for trial at the next sittings of the Supreme Court, to be held here on the Ist of April next, when ho- will also appear on a charge of forgery. Dunedin, Nov 19. The Volunteer Artillery have fired for district representatives with the following results ; Lieut Muir, 91; T. Muir, 87; Aam, 83. [FROM OUK DUNEDIN CORRESPONDENT.] Dunedin, Nov 19. The ship Auckland from Glasgow to Dunedin with immigrants passed the Bluff this morning. Mr Bathgate fined a sly grog seller £SO to-day. He intimates that he will impose that penalty in all future cases.
