It is stated that the heir to the Jamieson estate, worth from £700,000 to £1,000,000, has been discovered at St John's, New Bruntwick, in the person of John W. B. Jamieson, a young man in poor circumstances, recently employed in peddling stationery. Le Figaro gives a conversation with an elector, who was asked why he had voted for a Rouge, and whether he had become a Democrat. "Not at all," he replied; "but if I were to vote against them they would hang me in the next emeutc. I howl with the wolves simply to avoid being eaten by them."
