AN OCEAN RACE.
The clipper ships Thomas Stephens and City of Hankow have just completed a splendid race from London to Melbourne. The City is considered one of the fastest ships of the well known “ City ” line, and the Thomas Stephens belongs to the Thames and Mersey line. The City left London Docks on Is ovember 17th, and the Stephens on the 18th, while the former made a first start from the Lizard on the 21st, and the Stephens did so the next day. Both ships were several times in company during the voyage. The City anchored in Hobson’s Bay at 1.0 p.m, on January 31st, and the Stephens three hours later. The City was at Port Phillip Heads at noon of that day, and the Stephens two hours and a half later. The Thomas Stephens was at Cape Otway some hours before the City, but was becalmed there for fourteen hours,
