SUNDAY OBSERVANCE LEAGUE.

1 A meeting in connection with the above league was held on Thursday evening, at the Congregational schoolroom. The Rev J. Buller presided, and briefly introduced the Rev A. F. Douglas, who delivered an address on the " Relationship between Sabbath Observance and Spiritual Religion." The meeting wan ; also addressed by the Rev W. McGowan. of Lyttelton, and Messrs G. W. Allan, King, Henderson, and Connall. Mr Dawson moved a cordial vote of thanks to Mr Douglas for his excellent paper. Mr Ballantyne seconded the motion, which was carried by acclamation. Mr Douglas, in reply, said that while they blamed their rulers for opening places of amusement, such as the Museum, on Sundays, they ought also to blame themselves as they were responsible for their acts. [Hear, hear.] In his own experience he had found that omnibus drivers, who were compelled at home to work on a Sunday, had not one good . word to say in behalf of their work. Mr Connall had hit the right nail on the head when he told them that evening that one of the objects of the league was to protect the weak against the strong. Those who opposed the league did not do so openly, but, as if ashamed of that opposition, contented themselves with writing anonymous letters to the newspapers. He thanked the meeting for the cordial vote of thanks passed to him. After the Doxology had beta sung, the meet- ' ing closed with prayer.
