(Press Telegraph Agency.') Auckland, June 26. A special meeting of the City Council is convened to consider a proposal by Mr Turner, of San Francisco, to lay street tramways branching to the suburbs and country. The work will be undeitaken by a local company, probably aided by San Francisco capital. The Superintendent has ordered to be gazetted two deeds upon which he partly based his remarks relative to the General Government allowing the sale of important rights to private individuals over the Tairua block just prior to purchasing. The first deed is a grant by the natives of the whole timber, and exclusive of water and other rights, on 6000 acres, to Messrs Secombe and Brewers; the second deed is a sale of 36,000 acres at Tairua to the General Government, subject to rights acquired by Secombe; this deed dated 14th December, 1872. Both deeds are witnessed by the same parties, and the later one signed by James blackay, as Government Laud Purchase Commissioner. Napieb, June 26. Hon H. Russell has petitioned the Council praying for redress of grievances re purchase of land at Motuotaira. He wants to recover costs. The Russell v Sealy question has been referred to a select committee, to report on Wednesday, Mr Sheehan is engaged by the Provincial Council to watch the proceedings. Hokitika, June 26. A seam of coal has been found near the township at the special settlement at Jackson’s Bay, but the quantity is not yet ascertained. The settlement is progressing satisfactorily. Arrived —The Annie Houlan, schooner, from Christiana. She left on December 10th, and met heavy weather, with a fearful sea. She lost jibstay, boom, and foresail. She put into Leith to replace them, and left again on the 30th of January. She put into the Cape of Good Hope for water. She encountered a very heavy gale in the Southern Ocean, and made the Solanders on the 20th instant. She brings a cargo of timber.
