Delamain, J. Brabazon. Judge, M Studholme; starter, J. Selfe; clerk of the course, Mr Delamain; clerk of the seats, S. Garforth; honorary treasurer, E. W. Millett, Much to the satisfaction of the promoters of the Steeplechase meeting, held to-day, on the property of Messrs Brittan and Sheppard, the morning broke fine, and there could be no doubt that the attendance at the races would be very large. Before the time fixed for the first race there was a steady stream of pedestrians down Cashel street, and the relative merits of the different animals engaged were being canvassed by each group of spectators. Ivanhoe had all along been the favorite for the big event, but none of the horses carried much money. All the animals engaged put in an appearance, and perhaps Ivanhoe, Mousetrap, and Speculation looked in the best order.
Very little time was lost in weighing out, and the horses immediately came to the starting point, and were sent away together, coming home in the order given as under : The Cheistchubch Handicap Steeplechase, of 100 sovs, added to a sweepstakes of 7 sovs each for acceptors. Nomination, 3 sovs each, to go to the fund. Distance, about 3J miles, over a fair hunting country. Mr L. Markey’s gr g Mousetrap, aged, lOst 101 b ... .. ... (Sheenan) 1 Mr F. Ray’s b m Medora, aged, 12st 71b (Gault) 0
The finish was really a splendid one, Mousetrap winning by a bare length, Ivanhoe being ridden out home, and with great determination. Medora fell, and refused the jumps afterwards, and Speculation was out of the race after two miles had been travelled.
