We notice that the N.Z. Steam Shipping Company will, in future, allow through passengers to break their journey at any port or ports, resuming again by next steamer following belonging to that company. This is a convenience, the want of which has long been felt, and will, we are sure, be much appreciated by the travelling public. THE DEPARTURE OF THE RANGITIKI. This magnificent ship took her departure yesterday at her advertised time, She was towed out to ■ea by the s.s. Taranaki. The passengers were taken on board by the s.s. Mullough, and were accompanied by a great many of their friends, some of whom remained on board the ship till she was outside the heads, and returned in the Taranaki. Good work was done in finishing loading this vessel, on Friday last no less than 790 bales of wool and sixty tons of tallow and stores being taken on board. Her cargo is worth at least £140,000 including gold, but a considerable portion of the wool, etc, comes from other provinces, and of course the gold, which is valued at about £75,000. This is Captain Boyd's first trip as captain in these vessels, and we hope he will inaugurate his command by making a rapid and comfortable passage home. Many friends in Canterbury will watch anxiously for aewi of |the fUngltlU'a itfe arrival,
