Misses Margaret, Jane, and Elizabeth Buchanan, of Bellfield, near Kilmarnock, daughters of a deceased Glasgow merchant, have bequeathed £IO,OOO to the Merchants' House of Glasgow ; £4200 to the Glasgow University, for bursaries ; £2500 to the Buchanan Society of Glasgow ; £3OOO for the building of an hospital for the maintenance of indigent burgesses ; and the lands of Bellfield for charitable purposes—the whole amounting to upwards of £IOO,OOO. A. contemporary supplies the following information respecting the extensive trade in perfumery which is carried on in Nice and the neighborhood. Niee and Cannes supply annually 50,0001 b of violets, Nice further producing 400,0001 b of orange blossoms, whilst Cannes supplies 350,0001 b of acacia blossoms. The total annual production of Grasse and Cannes in ready-made pomatum and essential oil reaches the important figure of 41,4001 b. One single manufacturer (Herman) in Cannes consumes annually 140,0001 b of orange blossoms, 129,0001 b of acacia blossoms, 140,0001 b of rose leaves, 32,0001 b of jasmine blossoms, 20,0001 b of violets, and 80001 b of tube roses.
