MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
♦ CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, October 8. [Before C. R. Blakiston, and H. P. MurrayAynsley, Esqs, J.P.’s] Drunk and Resisting the Police.— D, McGuinness, labourer, charged with being drunk, resisting the police, and breaking a pane of glass in a shop in High street, was fined 10s, and advised to pay the amount of damage done. Drunk and Disorderly.— E. Trenwith was lined £l, or forty eight hours ; and Wm. Chapman ss, or twenty-four hours. Lunacy prom Drink.—Thomas Liddle, who had been remanded for medical treatment and was now recovered, was brought up and discharged. Disobeying an Order.— Thomas Helms was charged on warrant with failing to obey an order of the Court for the support of his family, An order had been made for 10s a week, and there were now twelve weeks overdue. The constable said the accused would not walk when be arrested him, and he was compelled to hire a conveyance to bring him to town. In reply to ths.
Bench, accused said he was prepared to pay £4 at once. F. C, de Malet, ch rk toll. Court, said the accused had been alieady four times before the Bench, and it was found necessary on every occa.ion when the money became due to issue a warrant for his arrest. When last before the Court he (accused) said he had no money, and on the same evening he was arrested for drunkenness. Ordere I to pay 15s, hire of conveyance, and to be detained in custody until £6, amount of arrears, is paid. Neglected Child. —Mary Thompson, twelve years old, was brought up this charge. The mother of the girl stated that she had heard six years ago that her husband was dead. Her daughter had been in service—the last time for six week —but she left there, and would not remain in any place. The girl had got into the habit of staying out at night time, and as she (witness) was at service, she could not look after her daughter, who was beyond her control. Remanded for one day.
