The French Government has ordered the formation of a territorial army of 120,000 men. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, October 14. The Ministry having resigned, Sir James McCulloch has been sent for to form a Ministry, and the House adjourned till Tuesday, October 19th, to enable him to complete the necessary arrangements. Nothing has yet transpired, but there is no doubt that Sir James will be successful in his task. It is just possible that Mr Kerferd may be Chief Secretary, and Sir J. McCulloch Premier and Treasurer. An Opposition to the new Ministry is threatened. At the inquiry into the wreck of the Flying Squirrel on King’s Island, the master was acquitted from blame, as the rock struck upon was not shown on the Admiralty charts. Bentley, late manager of the Bank of New South Wales, at Beechworth, has been convicted on several charges of making false entries, and has been remanded for sentence.
