LYTTELTON COLONISTS’ SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting was held on Thursday evening last. Present—Dr Rouse (president), Messrs Phillips, Webb, Joyce, Edge, Rich, Little, Jacobson, Dr McDonald, Captain Gibson, The treasurer stated that he had received £2B 15s during the month. Accounts were passed, amounting to £l6 10s 7,d. Proposed—“ That the proprietors of the Press and Lyttelton Times be written to, to supply those papers free of coat.” Carried. A proposition that the Australian SJietoher , Adelaide Observer, and Spectator , should be subscribed for, was carried. The president and vice-president, Messrs Webb, Allwright, Joyce were appointed a building committee. The president, vice-president, and Messrs Phillips, Joyce, and Webb, were elected a library committee. Mr Webb spoke at length on the advantages of Tobin’s ventilators, which he had seen practically tested in Wellington, and advocated their use in the hall. Resolved—“ That fifty posters be procured and placed in the most public places in Lyttelton, informing sailors and the public generally that there is a free reading room for sailors and visitors in Ryttelton.” Resolved—“ That the building snb-committee be requested to take immediate steps as to repairs required and seating of the hall.” Resolved —“ That a general meeting, to consider notices of motion given by Messrs Boddington and Jacobson, be held on Wednesday, November 17th.” The meeting then adjourned,
