AKAROA ELECTION.

Mr Pilliet at Le Bon's Bay. A meeting of the electors of Leßon's Bay took place at the schoolhouse on Wednesday evening last, to hear Mr Piliiet's views. Mr Wm, Barnett was elected chairman. Mr Pilliet addressed the electors at considerable length, reviewing the action he had taken in the Provincial Council, and stating what his opinions were on the leading questions before the country. He said that he was in favor of the abolition of provincialism, would support the Vogel policy, but was against importing immigrants any longer onanyother system but the nominated one. He considered that the public money should provide a good and sound education for the people, but was against the extravagance of which the late Board of Education and the Montgomery Government had been guilty, and from which the country districts had suffered. Mr Pilliet sat down amidst great cheering. The following resolution, proposed by Mr T. H. Oldridge, and seconded by Mr H. Barnett, sen, was carried unanimously—- " That this meeting thanks Mr Pilliet for his address, and is of opinion that he is a fit and proper person to represent the Akaroa district in the General Assembly. A vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman, and the meeting, which was largely attended, separated.
