AVON ROAD BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Board took place on Monday, November 22nd. All the members were present, The clerk reported the following receipts since previous meeting of the Board:—From general rates, J 276 5s ; Waimakiriri, £6los 7d; subscriptions through Mr Hepburn, £l3 2s 6d. The credit balance is, with £SOO paid into bank by Government, £1142 12s Bd. The clerk was directed to offer the clearing of No 2 drain to Dow, and if not accepted to call for tenders. The Board considered that all the rates should have been paid before this, and ordered that, unless paid by the 16th December, summonses be issued against all defaulters. A letter from the Government was read informing the Board that the re-grant for the Telegraph roadhad been paid to itscredit. The chairman informed the Board that he had by resolution met his Honor (the Superintendent and Mayor of Christchurch, and chairmen of Boad Boards, to settle about the election for the new Drainage Board, and that Mr Haskins had been suggested to act as returning officer if the Board did not object. It was resolved—" That Mr Haskins be returning officer for the Avon district." A letter from chairman of St Alban's school was read, asking the Board to have the culvert lengthened at the entrance to the road leading to the school. A letter from Mr Blakiston was read, complaining of the state of the side channels on Springfield road. The work was said to have been attended to. A letter from Mr Mcllroy of Carlton place, was read, objecting to the amount of his assessment. The objection was too late. Messrs Fowler and others, from Wakefield road, Carlton, saw tbe Board in reference to formation of roads laid out in the late Mr Stiffe's property, and offered to pay the usual proportion of the cost if the Board would undertake the work. They were informed that, before anything could be done in the matter, the roads must be properly dedicated, and the Board would form the roads on their paying half the cost of formation. A discussion took place as to the width of roads, and it was resolved that an advertisement be drawn on the matter for next meeting, Mr Mitchell saw the Board, and asked that the piece of road leading to his farm (Horseshoe Lake) be formed and clayed, about 9 chainß in length, and offered to pay one-third the cost. The Board said that tenders should be invited for the work for next meeting. Mr Johns saw the Board, and complained of the diversion of the water from Kruse's, and also complained of the contractors making holes to obtain material to form the Telegraph load. The surveyor was directed to order the contractor to fill in the holes. With regard to the diversion of Kruse's water, it was decided that Mr Horner be asked to sell a strip of his land, to put an end to the difficulty as to the drainage of this part of the district. Tenders were opened for clearing River Styx and shingling Laine's road, A tender was accepted for Laine's road, but orders were given to advertise for fresh tenders for clearing the Styx. The clerk was directed to make out a list of those properties to be benefitted if gas were laid on for street lamps along the North road to St Albans. The surveyor was directed to advertise for tenders for 500 yards of screened shingle.
