ROAD BOARDS.
ELLESMERE. A meeting of the Ellesmere Road Board •was held at Leeston, on Wednesday, December Ist. Present—Messrs 0. J. Bridge (in the chair), J. Rennie, T. D. Acland, R. Lockhead, and G. B, Woodman. The following correspondence was then read—From Messrs Fitzroy and Acland, asking the Board to clean out Taumutu Creek, as it was doing considerable damage to Fincham’s road, the parties interested promising to contribute one-third of the cost, and to keep it clear in future. Granted. Tenders to be called for at once. Messrs Mouldney and Greeny waited on the Board, complaining of an undue quantity of water on the road opposite their section. The Board decided to widen the mouth of the main drain, and instructed the overseer to call for tenders. Mr McKonkey appeared before the Board, asking for an outlet from the lake road drain on to the lake flat, and offering to pay the usual guarantee. The overseer was requested to inspect and report on same at the next meeting. Mr Fay asked the Board to metal the Branch drain road. The overseer was instructed to ascertain where metal can be obtained for the purpose, and report. The Board decided to erect a post and rail fence for tying uphorses,atthe Irwell Railway Station. The overseer instructed to call for tenders to deepen Boggy creek below the main road, tenders returnable on Friday, the 10th inst. Mr Frankish interviewed the Board, asking to have the Lower Lake road metalled. The Board decided to recommend the work to their successors in office. Mr Metcalfe applied to have a portion of the Boundary (Jreek road fronting his section formed the full with. Granted ; tenders to be called for. He also applied for a few loads of shingle, which were granted him by the Board on the usual terms. Messrs Scott and Wilson applied for a culvert across tin Branch Drain road, near Frampton’s Grant'd. An application from Messrs Macpherson, Matthews, and others, for Davie’ Upad to be formed full width was referred
to the new Board, as was also the formation of Harman’s road from the main road to the trig, poles, and certain improvements on the Lake road north, by Baxter’s, The Board decided to take legal proceedings for the recovery of the promised subscriptions towards the formation of Bluett’s road. It was resolved to hold the annual meeting of ratepayers on the 4th January, 1876. The overseer was instructed to sue for all rates not paid by the 20th inst. Tenders were opened for the following works, and in each instance the lowest was accepted:—For the formation of Hastings street, Southbridge, from the church to the school for the formation of Anderson’s road, Lakeside ; for cutting drain and forming track on McConnell’s road ; for metalling Ruddock’s and part of Adam’s road. The overseer’s report was read and considered. The pay-sheet, amounting to £304 19s sd, was examined and passed for payment, and a vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings
LINCOLN. A meeting of this Board was held at the office, Prebbleton, on Thursday, the 2nd December, 1875 ; present, Messrs Marchant, Leadley, Maskrey, and Wills, In the absence of the chairman Mr Marchant was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting having been confirmed, the surveyor read his report, which was considered. It was resolved to place a pipe culvert under Shand’s road, at Harding’s corner, and another across the Ellesmere road, by Dawson’s, at Scheffer’s corner; also to call for tenders for reforming twelve chains, more or less, of the Selwynroad, near Mills. Tender* to be sent in to the Prebbleton Hotel, by Thursday, the 9th inst., at 6 p.m. Mr Cookson and Mr Maskrey were deputed to receive and accept a tender. Tenders were then opened, and one accepted for each of the following works :—Forming 20 chains, more or less, on Knight’s and Shaw’s road ; carting and delivering 150 yards of gravel on Tramway Drain road. The surveyor was instructed to take out summonses on the 9th instant, against all persons whose rates have not been paid ; also to advertise the annual meeting of ratepayers to take place at the Road Board office, Prebbleton, at 12 noon on Thursday, the 6th January. 1876, to elect two members to serve on the Board, in the place of Messrs Tosswill and Maskrey, who retire by rotation. The pay sheet, amounting to £297 7s lOd, having been passed for payment, the Board adjourned until 10 a.m. on Thursday, the 6th January, 1876.
