THE RESULT OF MAKING A WILL WITHOUT LEGAL ASSISTANCE.
Mr. Ridout, the late proprietor of the Morning Post, was his own lawyer and made his own will. The result is a little curious. Describing himself in his testament as the owner of the fashionable daily, he left by special clause sums varying from £'2s to £SO to all his servants who had been live years in his employ. Clearly, he meant his domestic servants—those employed m his household—but having described himself as a newspaper proprietor, the words take a much more extensive range, and everybody employed in the Morning Post office is held to be a legatee. Consequently, from the. porter to the editor-compositors, reporters, correspondents, the whole literary staff is the richer.
