CHRISTCHUROH. Monday, September 25. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M.] g», Drunk and Disorderly.—Three inebriates who appeared for the first time, were each fined ss; one who had been admitted to bail was fined 10s. James Mauley, charged with being drunk, committing a breach of the peace, and assaulting, the arresting constable, was fined £2. Destruction of Private Property.— William Bennett was charged with breaking a pipe belonging to a Mr Robert Harrison. The prosecutor was walking along the street smoking, when accused knocked the pipe out of his mouth. Evidence was given to show that accused was very eccentric in his manner, and his expressions in Court confirmed this. His Worship remanded him for medical examination. Vagrancy.—Ellen Thompson, a very old offender, was charged with being an idle and disorderly person." "The accused had been arrested the previous night dressed in men's clothes, and was behaving in a very improper manner. It was shown that for some time past that she had been leading a vagrant life. Sentenced to six months'imprisonment with hard labor. LYTTELTON. Monday, September 25. (Before W. Donald, Esq, R.M.) Illegally on Premises. —George Murray, arrested by Constable BuHen, was charged with this offence. It appeared from evidence given, that accused was in the habit of sleeping in the railway trucks. He had been cautioned by the night watchman some time previous to arrest. When Constable Bullen did take him up, prisoner was w. a pre 1 in a tarpaulin, which he had unissued from a waggon loaded with general cargo. Sergeant Smith proved that prisoner was an old offender, having been convicted on many previous occasions for different offences. The Bench sentenced . accused to. three month's imprisonment with hard labor as a vagrant. > .
