MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, October 17. (Before G. L. Hellish, Esq, R.M., and Percy Cox, Esq., J.P.) Stealing Post Letters.—T. H. Knibbs was charged with having stolen two letters from box No 37, at the Post Office. Detective Neill had been placed on watch at the Post Office, and at five minutes past 8 o’clock the previous night he saw accused open the box and take two letters out of it. He followed him up the street and arrested him with the letters on him. On the application of Inspector Feast accused was re mauded until the 19th inst. for the production of evidence. Transfer of License.— A temporal y transfer of the license of Barrett’s Hotel from Wilhelm Schmidt to Messrs Cookson and Freeman, was granted. ' LYTTELTON. Tuesday, October 17. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness—Bichard King, arrested by Constable Johnston, and Callaghan McCarthy, arrested by Constable Devine, charged with the above offence, were fined 10s each, or, in default, forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Dog li egistration Ordinance. Eugene McCarthy was charged with having an unregistered dog in his possession, and fined 20s and costs. A case against Thomas Robinson, for a similar offence, was adjourned for one week. Cattle Trespass.—James Higgs, charged with allowing a horse to wander at large in London street, was fined 5s and costs Thomas Clarkson, for allowing two cows to wander at large on Norwich Quay, was fined 5i and coats.
